Review: The Hating Game

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

Why, oh why, have I not read this book before now! If you have not read it, get it now! Buy it, check it out from the library, borrow it, whatever you have to do. I adore this book. I laughed from start to finish.

“I type my password: IHATEJOSHUA4EV@. My previous passwords have all been variations on how much I hate Joshua.” –Lucy

This was the beginning of my love affair with this book.

Lucy:

Lucy was a total sweetheart, torn by her interest in and hate for Joshua. She was loved by everyone, except Joshua, her archnemesis. She is very work oriented and has become lonely due to a merger at her job that cost her best friend a job. No friends, no love prospects and her overwhelming annoyance with the coworker seated right in front of her.

Joshua:

Cold, cynical and absolutely gorgeous. Lucy drives him crazy because she is the complete opposite of him. Everyone is afraid of him, with his reputation of being hard and strict. He just can’t seem to get Lucy out of his head.

Overall:

The banter was absolutely hilarious. I rooted for them through the whole book. It shows how people can be so misunderstood. The romance and sexual banter was steamy and totally absorbs you in this book without going overboard. Sally Thorne has written a masterpiece I was honored to read.

  1. Hallo, Hallo,…

Happily I can say, this particular book has been on my radar as well! Sadly I can’t remember who/whom actually clued me into it in the first place – was it a book I spied coming in from my local library? was it a tweet s/o? someone w/in our #blogging4books group? Honestly it could be a combination of ALL of these *threads of discovery or none of them at all! I’ve been starting to visit blogs again with better regularity so in theory I could have found it through one of those wanderings as well! lol

I love how you’ve written an atypical short review! Meaning – I like how you gave more of yourself into this review! I’ve read loads of shorter reviews which seem like a cookie-cutter variation of each other – you haven’t done this – you took a different route! You’ve re-defined your perimeters of what you wanted to focus on – blessedly, the insights you’ve given the individual characters are similar to what I do on my audiobook reviews – and you’ve inserted me a bit into the plotting & sequencing for how this story unfolds – #blessed!!

I want something to chew on when I read book reviews and you’ve given that to me! I need to sort out if I requested this book OR can request it — or maybe, is it an #audioread? Hmm. Need to pop into my Scribd and find out! Esp as I have that two month trial!! (cheers)

    * the password was quite cheeky, I agree!
    * their chemistry & insta-connection was a brilliant move on the author!
    * their angst & vexations with each other being *oppositional* in personality was classic!

Thanks for re-convincing me to keep this on my TBR!
