Hi! I think I have FINALLY figured out enough to do my first review! The book I just finished is Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. This book was heavy, I mean lots of heavy. I may be in the minority here, but this was not my favorite book. Here is a brief breakdown of my thoughts after finishing the book:
LOVE: The love story between Zelie and Inan felt so rushed to me and then when you could root for them, it was just over. The other romantic storyline with her brother, Tzain and his sister, Amari was definitely slower paced, but was just kind of left up in the air in this book. I understand this is the first book, so I am hoping this will be tackled later on.
MAIN CHARACTERS: I appreciated the very rapid and intense transformations each of the main four characters went through. They were forced to grow up fast in a very fierce and hard world. Unfortunately, I could not find myself connecting to any of the characters emotionally, I felt very disconnected from the story, like an outsider looking in and not really a part of it.
THEME: Overall, the world Tomi built was very intriguing. It was a little confusing to keep up with at times and most of the supporting cast ended up dead.
OVERALL: I did not dislike this book, but I did not love it either. The book was a very slow read for me and I found myself kind of having to force myself to finish it. The magic was interesting and I had hope for the love story between Zelie and Inan. Just went it really picked up, BOOM….he was just gone. Major mood destroyer.
FINAL RATING: ⭐⭐⭐ 3 out of 5 stars
Until Next Time!!
